A journey through life and love after loss

“I hope you find comfort and inspiration here.”

Welcome!

I first started a blog back in March of 2015 when I lost my late husband and highschool sweetheart, Ralf. We were both 28 years old at the time and I was 7 months pregnant with our first and only child, Mason. Ralf was a highly respected City of Miami Firefighter who lost his life to a brain tumor just 10 days after he was diagnosed. Because he was loved by so many throughout our community, the response to his passing was incredible. Hundreds of people attended his funeral and provided both emotional and financial support to help me prepare for Mason’s arrival.

So much in my life has changed since then. I am now remarried to my wonderful husband, Vinnie. He suffered a similar loss and our grief journeys thankfully led us to each other. He needed us just as much as Mason and I needed him. Our family became complete in July of 2020 when we welcomed our triple rainbow baby, Logan.

You could say I’ve had my share of challenges in life:

Losing Ralf.
Anxiety.
Multiple pregnancy losses.
Watching my 3 month old baby boy undergo major surgery.
And other struggles, too.

Through it all, I have learned that there is strength in vulnerability and there is empowerment in community. We all have our stories. For me, openly talking about my struggles and connecting with others who have endured similar difficulties has provided comfort and a sense of belonging. I believe that we as human beings feel so much less alone when we know that someone else has not only been where we are and survived, but thrived. I hope that by continuing to share, I can remind someone, somewhere that they are not alone and that there is always beauty left to be found.

Life after unimaginable loss is a constant work in progress and the journey is always shifting. I’m a mom, a wife, and a widow all at once. But mostly, I’m just a woman doing the best I can to navigate the twists and turns along the broken, beautiful road we call life.

I hope you find comfort and inspiration here.
